Nowhere To Hide | Aren’t Bonds Supposed To Provide Support For Falling Stocks?

That’s how things seemed to work during the two decades before COVID. It’s a different world now, but similar to what we had from the 60s through the 70s. Then, inflation was the drummer setting the beat for the markets.

6 | Poll Response

We want to know what you think! Each week we’ll ask for your thoughts and opinions on various subjects to gain a look into the people around you and of other readers in the Annex community.

Get the results from last week’s poll, “When do you do your charitable giving?” and discover ground rules to help you navigate taxes & charitable giving

The results are in from last week’s poll: When do you do your charitable giving?

            • 5% Beginning of the year
            • 77% Throughout the year
            • 15% End of year
            • 3% I don’t

For the 97% of you who take part in charitable giving the tax aspects of it can be complex, but using a few ground rules can help you navigate through it:

  1. Always ask for a receipt if your donation is cash or exceeds $250 to one cause.
  2. Get an independent appraisal in writing for gifts exceeding $5,000.
  3. Subtract the value of any benefits to yourself before making the deduction (i.e. meals, entertainment, etc.).
  4. Itemize your deductions if you suspect your total gifts may exceed the standard deduction.
  5. Know the annual deduction limits for certain causes such as public charities and donor-advised funds.

The type of charitable gift you give can also impact the tax treatment of it and revolves around three key details:

1. Who you give the gift to

2. How you organize the gift

3. Typle of property you decide to give

Be sure as you navigate your charitable contributions or consider starting charitable contributions you connect with a Wealth Manager for guidance (source).

Tips, strategies & information written exclusively for Annex clients.

Receiving Monthly Statements from Charles Schwab & TD Ameritrade

The long-awaited Schwab and TD Ameritrade merger is complete!  What you should look for as the first month at Schwab draws to a close.

The long-awaited Schwab and TD Ameritrade merger is complete!  What should you look for as the first month at Schwab draws to a close?

Clients who had accounts at TD Ameritrade will receive both a TD Ameritrade and a Schwab statement in October for the month of September.  Most TD Ameritrade statements will show a zero balance, as accounts have transitions to Schwab.  If you see a small residual balance at TD Ameritrade, please note that this residual balance will move to Schwab in the coming days and weeks.  You will continue to receive a TD Ameritrade monthly statement until the account is fully at zero.

Once your TD Ameritrade account balance shows zero, you will stop receiving statements from TD Ameritrade and will only receive statements from Schwab.

If you wish to receive statements and confirmations from Schwab electronically, you must establish your SchwabAlliance profile (information was sent from Schwab and was included in previous emails from Annex) in order to view and access statements and confirmation on Schwab’s site.  Even if you had electronic statement delivery at TD Ameritrade, you must establish your SchwabAlliance credentials within 90 days of the conversion (December 4) or you will be converted to paper statements and confirmations from Schwab.

Please contact your Wealth Manager or Client Service Manager with any immediate questions.
